ADOPTION
After retiring, most Thoroughbred runners fall into one of two categories:
- Those who are healthy and can be retrained to do most
riding disciplines, English or Western, from showing, to
pleasure or trail riding
- Those who are injured and consequently cannot be ridden.
As "Companions” they can still make a great family friend,
not to mention a magnificent addition to the scenery in
your pasture.
OTRP takes every precaution to make the right match between horse and adopter.

Our expenses associated with just the basics of caring for a healthy horse can be
costly. Injured horses incur additional expenses such as medical supplies and
veterinary bills. We have several horses that are permanent retirees at OTRP and
we rely on donations from caring citizens who share our love for these horses. We
have an ongoing need to help support our monthly obligations to care for these
retirees. At $150 a month, you can provide much of the care for one horse. Of
course, we welcome all donations, as any amount helps support our horses. All
monetary donations are tax deductible.

FOSTER
As is the case with many equine retirement/adoption organizations, the need is much greater than the available space. OTRP is limited in the number of horses we can
accept due to space and funding. There is always a need for good temporary housing
for horses in line to be moved to a permanent home. Maybe you could provide a foster
home for one! You supply shelter, grain and hay. OTRP will provide the trimming, vaccines and worming.

IN KIND DONATIONS
Some folks, especially groups, like to give in-kind donations, and they’re just as
welcome as cash at OTRP! We can always use and appreciate the following:
- Grain, Hay & Supplements
- Halters, lead ropes
- Medical supplies, bandages, ointments
- Health-related supplies, wormer, vaccines
